The neighbour changes the card
Symbiont is a mobile roguelike strategy game about growing an organism on a hex grid. A cell’s effect depends on its neighbours. That makes placement a decision rather than a decoration: a gene can become stronger beside one cell and weaker beside another. The repository describes synergies, conflicts and amplification as the core language of the board. The challenge is to let players understand those relationships before committing a move, especially on a portrait phone screen.
Growth, environment, evolution
The run alternates growth, an environment resolution and an evolution draft. Players place genes, face a threat and choose how the organism develops. The current implementation adds a forecast of the actual environment result and a limited redraw. That makes the next decision more legible: the player can compare the expected damage with the hand still available. A good forecast does not remove difficulty. It helps the game explain which risk the player is choosing.
Daily challenges need reproducible runs
The daily mode uses seeded ordering for cards, mutations and drafts. Reproducibility matters when people compare attempts: a challenge should not quietly turn into a different sequence for each player. Godot and GDScript support the offline core; the repository also contains a Django REST backend for accounts, leaderboards and ghost multiplayer. These are separate layers. A playable local run is valuable on its own, while online behaviour still needs its own end-to-end acceptance.
Where it stands
The README describes a content-rich MVP and documents local game checks. Native ads and billing still require device QA. I keep the portfolio stage as in development rather than calling the game commercially launched. The next useful review is whether players can read the board, predict a consequence and explain why a run ended. That is the test of an adjacency strategy game: its interesting decisions must be visible, rather than hidden in numbers behind the screen.
